I am new to climbing outdoors. I went climbing outdoors once already with a member of this forum, it was awesome. I noticed a few places to climb at the Delaware Water Gap. I was wondering if anyone has climbed there and is wanting to climb there again or if anyone has never climbed there but is willing to go with me? Please let me know. Im eager to climb again. Thanks.

I have been climbing outdoors for a few years now all over the east coast but primarily New York and Pennsylvania and I don't know anyone that has ever climbed there more than 1 time. It's not safe and not a beginner area. The grades seem easy but its known for being dangerous. I don't know where you live but if your looking to get out as a newbie I suggest checking out Birdsboro PA or hiring a guide and heading to the Gunks.

Good luck and if you end up going to DWG let me know what you think!

I learned to climb and to lead in the gap as a teenager. Calling it dangerous is innaccurate, and implying so because you know of no one who's climbed there more than once is fallacious (weather? partners? logistics?). The gap is perhaps a bit more vegitated and, in spots, more loose than the Gunks, but it's a great place to adventure.

The routes listed in the gap here on MP are well traveled and are routinely climbed. Before the Park Service removed the climbers registration requirement, over 500 climbers a year registered and climbed the cliffs.

There are a few easily accessed TRs on both sides of the river. I will briefly be back to the area in late November, and I'm always looking for partners for the gap while im home, and I'd be glad to show you around. Send me a pm, and I can give you some more beta. There are also a couple guide services that work in DWG, and i believe NE Guiding has an account here on MP.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
