Description

Cool, shady, very nice in the middle of summer when the creek is running. Climb for a bit, then cool off in the creek. Not crowded, most drive by without seeing it. Don't bother if it rained today or yesterday, because of the location it takes about a day to dry off after a good rain.

Getting There

This is west of Littleton, about 5 miles into the foothills. Head up Deer Creek Canyon road (CO Rd 124) from C-470 and Kipling. After you pass South Valley Rd, it's about 2.5 miles up the hill on the left (south) side of the road. There's a small dirt pullout, you can fit 4 or 5 cars, and a little Jefferson County open space/no dumping sign. It's just at the tail end of perhaps the only straight stretch on this road.

Featured Route For Deer Creek Canyon Cave
Start in the far lower left of the picture, traverse to the right. When you get your hands on the part just below the little bush that looks like it's growing out of the moss, it's time to head up and to the left, this is probably the crux move as the hold is 2 feet up and 3 feet to the left. Once you get it, just climb up a few more feet before you traverse left over top of the cave for the down climb/walk.

Brother Beaver V5 PG13  CO : Denver South : Deer Creek Canyon Cave
Start deep in the right hand corner of the cave with your feet up and left hand on a horizontal wedge, traverse the right hand ledge with 6 or seven laybacks. On the last couple laybacks, keep your feet up and use them to push off and get a little extra reach. Once you're on the far right side of the boulder, pull up and dart your left hand out for the final crux move. An easy V1 traverse to the left taking you over top the cave will get you down on the far left side of the cave....[more]   Browse More Classics in CO
