Access Issue: 2023 Seasonal Raptor Nesting Closures
Details
JULY 5 UPDATE FROM PARK MANAGEMENT:
ALL SEASONAL CLIMBING CLOSURES FOR CLIMBING AND SLACKLINING WILL BE LIFTED ON FRIDAY, JULY 7TH THIS WEEK.
THANKS, EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP IN OBSERVING RESTRICTIONS DURING THE NESTING SEASON!
There are many seasonal raptor closures with varying dates and specific boundaries. These generally effect The Monument, Kiss of the Lepers, Picnic Lunch Wall and/or Smith Rock group, and possibly elsewhere. These usually run from February to the beginning of August, but each closure is usually shorter than this, and is dependent on the birds' behavior. Description
This new area only features one prime line, although there is potential for more development in this area. It is exposed at the top of Smith to the weather and sees shade till around 10am. Expect no crowds.
Getting There
It is located at the top of the aggro gully, on tops of the massive column that is in-between the aggro gully and shipwreck gully. Take the aggro gully to the top to approach, then as soon as you pop out of the chimney at the top of aggro you can see the routes to the right. Its a 40 foot spire that stands out with water streaks running down the overhang. Once you get to the top of the aggro gully, continue uphill till the rocks blocking you from the spire form a natural switch back.
