Description

The Fourth Triangle is somewhat set apart from the rest of the Upper Tier and is less of a true triangular summit. In fact, the Fourth is made up of two separate triangles (a bit like how the Fourth Flatiron in Boulder is actually made up of several smaller Flatirons stacked atop each other). It is a short scramble from the top of the lower part to the bottom of the upper part.

Getting There

The Fourth Triangle can be approached from above, or you can scramble (3rd Class, exposed) to the bottom of the upper section from the end of the ramp underneath the Third Triangle (the top of the Front Triangle). It is a 200 foot rappel from the top of the upper section to the bottom of the lower section, or you can scramble down through the woods to the west. Do not approach the Fourth Triangle from directly below, as the gully below it is steep and loose.

To scramble in from the ramp below the rest of the Upper Tier, keep going past the end of the Third Triangle (passing directly below the overhang on "Allrete") and sneak behind a tree. You'll probably need to take your pack off, and you may need to be on the slender side. Step carefully above the loose, sloping dropoff to the base of "Takin' it Easy / Takin' it Slow," directly across the gap.

When you approach from above, be aware that anything you kick down the rotten gully between the Fourth and the Third Triangles could land on climbers below. When you climb here, be aware of the same if people are approaching from above. You can tuck your belayers in under some overhangs at the bottom of both sections.
