Description Suggest change

Cuenca is an interationally known sport climbing area located 2 hours from Madrid. The rock is old limestone. Most of the routes are either vertical walls or overhanging. The routes are very technical (any grade) and long. If you are looking for hard routes, plenty of crimps, small holds and 2-finger pockets, this is your paradise.

It's a good alternative sometimes when in Madrid's limestone areas is too cold during the Winter. Best seasons: Spring and Autumn.

The city of Cuenca, famous by its "Casas Colgadas" is right there, so there is tourism possibilities as well.

One of the favourite places for climbers to grab a beer after the climb is the bar located in the Alcampo (big mall next to the road).

The Escalada Desportiva website has a great deal of beta about Cuenca climbing including high-quality free PDF downloads of topos.

Getting There Suggest change

The routes are mostly on the walls at both sides of the river. From the city of Cuenca, direction Tragacete for the sectors in Hoz del Júcar or direction Palomeras for the sectors in Hoz del Huécar.
