I am trying to get my brother out climbing for the first time and it looks like this coming Monday our schedules line up for him to go out. Crowders Mountain is the closest to where he lives and from what I can tell probably the best place for an introduction. I have never been to Crowders and have always heard that it is not worth the trip. So if we try for Crowders on Monday is it going to be A) so crowded I will immediately regret my decision. B) Hot and crowded. C) just hot

On top of the is it a good place to introduce my brother to climbing question. What routes would you recommend.

Pano of Choas in the P2 crux. Undercling-high-step...
Crowder's is a good beginners cliff. It will be hot, especially around noon. You can hide from the sun on the north side or in the Fortress area in the morning. In the afternoon the better walls open up like Red Wall, David's Castle, and Practice Wall. Remember to wear a helmet. The tourist are idiots and do not care about throwing stuff at you. This is especially true on the Practice Wall. TomCaldwell

take him to the backside of davids castle, easy top rope setup and fun climbs 5.5 to 5.9 get there at 8am and you'll get a spot. There are 3 sets of anchors that cover the wall, you can climb all over it. chris mcguigan
