Could you help me identify this rope?

I came home yesterday to find my roommate had left a shiny rope on my bed. I has seen almost no use from the look of it, but my roommate doesn't know how old it is. I think its a New England Maxim, about 10.3 mm. But I would like to know how old it is before I decide weather to use it or not. Its grey with thick purple stripes, I'll see if I can get some pictures up.

Thanks,
Tom

try contacting the manufacturer, send them the same photos- i'm sure they'll recognize it

I would be hesitant to use a rope if I did not know its history or at least who owned it. The fact that it looks new is a great start, but in addition to learning the ropes age, I would also want to know how it was used and how it was stored.

That being said, congrats on your new rope. That is a cool gift to receive!

I am definitely hesitant. I've been thinking i probably wont use it to lead, it'll likely be my dick around rope for things I don't want to use my good rope for. But the more information i can get the better.

I would be very hesitant to use a mystery rope, it really doesn't matter what the make and model is. Looks like it would make a nice rug though.

Merry belated Christmas and a Happy New Year, send me the rope and I will gladly test it out for you!

I agree, definitely don't lead on it. Depending on what you find, it'd probably be good for top roping. Probably would be okay to use it on 3rd and 4th snow too. Rugs & art are always cool.

Ask your roommate how he got it. You can probably discover how much to trust it by inspecting the whole thing for core hourglasses, sheath damage, etc. Looks pretty intact from afar.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
