Cougar crag, San Diego.

I was recently messing around at this crag and found my self climbing what I believe is a new route. This route sits just left of "stranger danger" 5.10b/c on a small corner, or rounding in the rock the whole way up and just right of what looks to be a old route that only had two pin bolts. If this route is unclimbed id like someone to message me to let me know what they think of it. I used the anchors of "stranger danger" to work this new route. It consist of thin face moves with a lot of balance. I also believe that this route may be close to the 5.11a/b range and was just really fun. Let me know what you think.

Hmm... Sorry I can't answer your question, but I didn't even know this crag existed! MP lists ~12 routes, is there a better guide available? Are there more than 12 routes? I may check it out sometime soon.

Thanks!

I don't care about your line man... I was just asking about the crag as a whole...

Bo,
It is great to see other climbers discovering some of the great crags north county has to offer.
Most of these places have flown off the radar for some time now. Though places like Cougar Crag have seen several waves of development since the early 70s. With the majority of the climbs on that cliff and surrounding crags up to the 5.12 range. Have been climbed. There used to be a beautiful 30' overhanging 5.12 finger crack that was blasted out when the quarry went in. The more recent development has mostly been done by Erik Williams and friends. Also John Daniels and friends. Both have MP accounts and if u PM them sure they would be more than glad to give you additional beta!!!

What do you mean you are "claiming that line"? Does that mean you want credit for the FA?

For the heady climbers that are in the area. I didn't mean climing as in "fuck off, it's mine." But I would like to be able to find out if this is an existing line already so I posted something about it. Dholte, this place is very fun and I advise you to go climb it and have a blast. Tylor j. If DB means dirt bag then I'm a local during the summers when I come home so we can talk then. Feel free to message me any time, I'll be home soon and I'd love to meet you in person. Sorry you didn't like my wording of "claiming it ". And Frankps, thankyou for your information. I climbed the face and thought it would be a good addition to the area. I didn't mean to affend anyone by posting what I did. I guess you can really see the true colors of the climbing community on MP.

I truly am sorry. It was totally my bad for trying to climb this line. Enjoy your thanksgivings climbers. Best of luck to all of you on your climbing trips. I didn't mean to sound like an asshole climber and I'm glad all of you were able to bash me on the internet.

What up Bo? You back in town? A buddy of mine put up those routes. Since he's already been named, I'll give Johnny D a text and get you the name and grade

I just left town. I was talking with a couple of guys. I figured the climb had already been done but wasn't sure. I'll be back over Christmas and will be down to hit the rocks. Thanks for the info bud.

Nope, DB here means douche bag. Probably stemming from your huge douchey reaction when Dholte tried to nicely reply to your question.

"Im claiming that line" and especially the "take it easy" part was over the top and super douchey especially since Dholte was just trying to be helpful and not jump on "your line". Hopefully you arent this intolerable in real life.

As a long time local resident of Fallbrook (now living in Joshua Tree)....I do believe Bo was just curious (and psyched) about the line. I know Bo;...he's a great lad, and an aspiring psyched climber;..and as he said;..he meant no disrespect to anyone;....enough said..I remember doing my early first ascents, back in the 70s...it was quite exciting.....I still do FAs...and it's still exciting. If it's a first ascent for Bo;....killer!...If it's an established TR...that is awesome too......but the locals need to speak up. I've checked the area out before;...but done no climbs there yet. I hope I get to climb there someday. San Diego climbing RULES!....we are fortunate to have so much rock and such awesome weather. Happy climbing!

LOL....
I was just passing through MP looking for something else and spotted this topic.

X2 on this part of what T.G. just had to say.

Todd thanks for hosting and your hospitality at Blitzo's Memorial. I had a nice time.

Bo, I think wondering about a potential FA on rock just off the side of an established climb at a tiny crag that has been climbed on for 35+ years like Cougar is Probably a little silly. That said. There is ton's of rock in your area that someone like you could take the time to discover, clean, climb, make safe, Cut a trail to, and hopefully develop an area to share with others. More times than not FA's are a lot of work that has nothing to do with just climbing the rock. Stay Stoked

Bo might be a nice dude as everyone saying but I guess he just lacks reading comprehension skills? Did he not understand that Dholte was just stoked to find out about a new climbing area and not trying to snake "his line". Plus like you said the climb was easily toproped from an already established climb. Who is dumb enough to think they could get a FA that way? Oh yeah Bo wouuld.....

"claiming" a line and telling someone to back off and take it easy makes ya a douche, and then getting overly offended about internet climbers "bashing" you makes it worse. Sorry Bo ya sound like a DB from your posts.
