Corsica in June?

Hey all,

Planning a euro-trip this summer and we are very intrigued by Corsica. Anyone know if it's too hot in June?

Obviously need to be choosy then (avoid S facing low-altitude).

I've heard there's some rather good climbing around one of the high-altitude road passes - Col Bavella.

And lots of other peaks to bag. The "grand" high traverse route (with huts) is supposed to be quite an adventure in itself.

Never climbed there myself: Because there's so many other great climbing places in Europe that are so much quicker to get to.

weather is typically fine in June with temperatures in the 80's but you can find shade. Do not plan on camping as it is mostly illegal and the locals do not take too kindly to any outsiders, especially from mainland France (stick to the main areas).

Thanks for the info Rui!

Not sure if you saw this, but it has some beautiful footage in it (along with a bit more talking than perhaps was strictly necessary, IMHO). Incredible rock.

We went in late April/early May and it was too snowy up high (Restonica). June might be better for the higher altitude type climbing.

The crags near Corte might be ok.

Bavella might be ok especially shady aspects.

The beachy stuff at/near Ile Rousse might be too toasty. There's some shady spots, though.

There's folks headin' that way for a canyoning rendezvous in June. Great spot for that. Clear water, granite canyons.

Great rock...crazy formations...bunches of climbing.

There's lots of gites that are reasonable to rent for lodging. We had one outside of Corte and another near Col de Bavella by Zonza.

What's the typical "best time" to go? Late September/Early October? Looks like a really awesome place...

Looking for partners Monty?? I'll be out that way in June, probably hanging out in northern and central Italy, but I've been wanting to go to Corsica since I visited Sardegna

Probably so. That's what I'd do if I went back. Maybe even stretch into mid October. Of course, I think October can be a bit more rainy.

May is usually pretty good but they'd had a heavy winter before we got there and the snowpack up high was pretty fat. I don't recall we had much rain in late April/early May. Maybe part of one day is all, in the afternoon.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
