Six-Gun by My Side (5.10a), Joshua Tree NP

Description

The left side of the Corral Wall has roughly 20 routes from 5.5 to 5.12 to choose from and a good mix of crack and face routes. A number of bolted anchors on the crag allow one to descend easily as well as pack in a large number of routes in a short time if so inclined.

Six-Gun by My Side (5.10a), Party in the Desert (5.10b) and Party till Ya' Puke (5.10b) are some of the more popular routes here but on a busy day don't be surprised to see ropes on most of the routes.

Routes from left to right:

Report all Gunshot Wounds (5.10a)
Honky Justice (5.12a/b)
Chuck Wagon Crack (5.8 R)
Ranch Hand (5.6)
Only Outlaws Have Guns (5.10a)
Corral Crack (5.5)
Herd Instinct (5.8)

This was a fun route. I've heard it told that the route is 5.11 if you eliminate the obvious wide crack on the left. But why? You can sit in a no-hands knee bar while clipping the bolts, so it seems natural to do it that way. The 10c grade assigned here is accounting for that. The first few clips are close to the crack and if you do use the crack at first for a kneebar, or later for an arete-like pinch or slappy lieback/barndoor, the crux comes just after leaving the crack to go belly-to-the bo...[more]   Browse More Classics in CA
