Climbing in Northwestern CT, not as much as other parts of the states, but this region is remarkabley more hilly and contains CT's highest spot, the side of a hill that has a summit just over the border into Massachusetts.
Climbing areas include:
Broad Hill Beech Rock St. John's Ledge Whitestone
Getting There
There is a network of roads throughout the region although there is no main thruway.
The Classics
Mountain Project's determination of some of the classic, most popular, highest rated routes for Northwest- Kent Area:
Beech Rock - great fun. Pumpy slightly over hanging bulgy face good quality rock. Climbs like Muscle beech 10+ (gravity waves ??) crack 11, some other good 10s and 11s. Unfortunately patrolled by resevoir police. Have been kicked out every time I have gone in the past couple years.
Broad Hill - Slightly overhanging fun climbs. Several good quality 10s and 11s, a 5.12-. A 5.7 crack and nice 5.9, not a great beginner place because everything fun tends to be pumpy and/or hard.
