I'll be in Japan April 17 - May 6, and I'm planning on climbing/hiking while there. I would like to try to get a peak while I'm there as well. I'm trying to find some information on whether everything is still going to be snow covered or if there are some mountains climbable without winter gear.
If anyone has any information, it would be much appreciated.

Tom, Thank for the reply. I have come across your buddy Wes's website in my searching and have found it useful.
How's the bouldering in Ogawayama? Do you recommend the bouldering around Osaka? Is there a place to rent a pad? Is there an area where I would be more likely to find a partner?
Thanks, David

Tokyo checking in here. You will still find some snow at higher elevations in Nagano. Jogasaki is almost going to be too hot but great climbing there. Ogawayama should be goodish, got a friend going first week of May. I will be going there mid May.
Please be super careful with snowy peaks this tims of year, Japan loves avalanching in early spring.
