DescriptionDynamite Shacks is one of two bouldering areas near the east entrance of Colorado National Monument (the other being Bullet Hole Rock Area). The boulders are Dakota sandstone, and vary in difficulty from V-easy to V7ish. The area is generally dry and climbable most of the year, although rain and snowmelt will make the hillsides the consistency of peanut butter. There is a lot of opportunity for route development in the area. Getting ThereFrom Grand Junction, travel west on Grand Avenue, which turns into Broadway. Cross over two bridges, at the next stop light turn left on to Monument Road, follow the signs to the Colorado National Monument, go approximately 1.5 miles, there will be a large gravel parking lot on the left marked with a BLM sign for the Tabeguache Trail. Dynamite Shacks is across the road from the Tabeguache parking area. There is a small, rutted out, parking area on the right side of the road as well.
