The Scoop Area

Description 

While most of Rotary Park's classic problems are located on freestanding boulders, The Scoop Area is a ridgeline that holds a good handful of excellent boulder and toprope problems. The Scoop, a magnificent line requiring both power and grace, is undoubtedly the focal point of this climbing area - definitely a must-do for locals and visitors alike.

Getting There 

Drive about one mile north from the Rotary Park parking lot to the Sunrise Group Day Use Area. Park here, walk south into the gully below the parking lot, and walk on top of the ridgeline until an iron pole, about 20" tall and 1" inch in diameter, is encountered. This is a toprope anchor for Classic Crack. Continuing south, another iron pole is encountered at the top of a tall, fun arete, and a downclimb can easily be made not much further south. Continue walking along a primitive trail to reach The Scoop, a feature that will be quite obvious as it comes into view.
