BETA PHOTO: A few of the routes on the Lone Star Boulder.

Description

The Lone Star Boulder is a bulge of rock that juts off the upper ridge, creating a dramatic overhanging prow, where a number of excellent routes reside. Hard traverses are the name of the game here, with challenging and aesthetic moderates toping out the prow.

The bucolic setting is one of my favorites, as the rock is tucked away on the seldom used end of the upper tier, where the trails coming to and from are nondestinct. From the summit a nice view of the Lake and environs caps off a worthwhile climb.

Getting There

First, find the Skunk Rub boulder and follow to the top of the traverse. Continue uphill and pass the Call it Crock rock on the right. Scramble up to the upper tier. Turn right and pass the Flakey Pull Roof. Duck under or over a large dead tree leaning against the ridge. The Lone Star Boulder is on the left of the flat clearing ahead.
