This is a small chunk of rock that almost looks like a juvenile owl on the hillside of Castle Mountain. The appearance from a distance drives a wanderer to explore. There is at least one route on the rock. The exact NP boundaries are a bit obscure on some parts of the Castle Mountain hillside, so tread carefully.
Note, there is plenty of evidence of a healthy mountain lion population in these woods, so keep an eye out for your kids & smaller climbing partners. These hungry ones seem capable of taking out elk...evidenced by the multiple carcasses.
I'm guessing this rock has a local name...if so, let me know...I'd be happy to change it.
Getting There
This is on the same hillside of Castle Mountain as Window Rock & Castle Rock, but it lies a bit lower and to the west. It is obvious from the road.
