Description

This route is located in a SW facing alcove just south of the summit tower. It is not quite visible in the Green Thumb photo on the Green Thumb rock page, however if you walk 50' south from where that photo was taken you would see this alcove.

The vertical crack in the back of the alcove is Green Crack (5.8+). Climb the crack, short but sweet. Rap back down from a small tree at the top. I would give this route 3 stars if it wasn't so short.

....Alternate descents include walking right to a large tree (single sling and no rings as of 10/21/02) or further right and down to two good bolts (the top of Zimbra I think).

The route described here is definitely "Green Crack" as described on p. 167-177 in Rossiter. It is perhaps confusing that the most obvious corner is "Green Crack", not "Green Corner". However, I think we should stick with the names in Rossiter's guide to avoid confusion.

I'm going to give this route 2 1/2 stars even though it is short. I also found it more difficult than the neighboring harder-rated climbs Diagonal Finger Crack and Green Corner - both of which are also excellent routes. All in all G. Thumb is an excellent spot to climb, well worth the hike in.
