Description

This well named giant flake is perched high on the West Ridge below Shirttail Peak. It is most obvious from the west, look for it on the skyline on your next hike up to the Rincon area. Although it appears there is no easy way to the top, it is in reality a prow of rock that thrusts westward from the ridge-crest and you can easily scramble up (or off) it from the ridge. On the south face is the classic bolted line "French Fry (12b)", and on the west side is the convoluted "Regular Route (10c)". It is quite a hike to this rock, and it is rarely visited.

Getting There

Take the Rincon Trail past the Rincon Wall, and climb up the gully toward Shirttail Peak. Veer off to the southeast, watching for the namesake spire. Don't forget to bring bean dip!

I was up on the Potato Chip yesterday. Climbed on the bolted route to the right of French Fry. I can't find any info about it. Anyone been on it? O.K. route, as with most seldom climbed Eldo routes, a little chossy.
