It would appear these tickets are going to be in high demand. Anyone lucky enough to score 5 of them may be able to sell them for more. I really hope anyone who does this will donate the difference to Layton. I would hate to see this event turned into a scalping windfall when the money should go to help Layton Kor. Maybe the AAC should auction them off or something.

Kor Tickets on sale now (8 am) I guess started to sell early. It is going to be a great show.

I thought Tickets weren't supposed to go on sale until 10:00. I was all ready with my credit card at 9:30 and the show was already sold out. Super duper lameness.

John- I sent an EM to Alpine Club (good luck on the phone this am), they say the confirmation EM for purchase will serve as will call at the door.
Pretty comical/lame that they started selling so early on line.

Neptunes sold out in 9 minutes! Ran down here after hearing web sales were early, but I was too late. This is a bunch of BS, I hope the AAC schedules a 2nd night.

Another vote for a second night. Seems kinda obvious . . .

The ticket is your confirmation. If you bought tickets for others who will arrive separately you need to print out copy's for them. That's at least what the AMC told me this AM.

There is a rumor floating around that the AAC is looking for a new (larger) venue to host this show. I'll post up when I hear it from the horses mouth.

Hopefuly something will work out.

Bear in mind that it's not really up to the AAC or Neptune if Kor does a second show. It's quite likely that he wants to do only one show. Hopefully, a larger venue can be arranged.

How about this idea:
AAC contacts Sender Films to do a high quality filming of the event...ticket holders and non ticket holders alike could purchase the film...with proceeds going to support Kor (Of course, I'm not sure how Kor himself would feel about the recording...).

Maybe even Sender could start to put together a larger documentary, including scenes from shows like this, photos and interviews with the greats, modern day footage of climbers on golden age routes, etc...in the similar sprit of Jeff Achey's outstanding book, Climb! The History of Rock Climbing in Colorado. What a great way to honor the pioneers like Kor.

If Sender needs convincing that such a film might work in the era of T-Shirtless bouldering flicks, The 5 minute sell out of this event proves there is a passionate market...

I drove from Bailey, about 2 hours, and found the tickets sold out BEFORE the advertised start time. I risked work issues, woke up early, etc... AND played by the rules. Then to see it was all for naught. Heartbreak city!!!

I also tried to get tix this morning and was pretty bummed to learn they put them on sale before they said they were going to.

So, if anyone wants to part with a ticket, I'd be psyched to donate $100 to the Kor Health Fund and give the seller $100 for the ticket; if you choose to donate the extra $80, that would be up to you.

Jay, I also drove down from Bailey and blew off work. I did get tickets and they did not start selling them early at Neptunes. I was about the sixth or seventh in line and I waited an hour for them to open. It is very lame that the online sales did start early.

A BIG THUMBS DOWN (OR FINGER UP) TO THE AAC!!! hopefully they support better climbing ethics than the lack of them they have shown their supporters and club members today.

Ouch... that hurts. I work with kids and I'm at the bottom of the financial food chain. BUT... I'd still DIG a ticket!!!!!

Although they didn't bother to list the start time of their ticket sales (they open for business at 8am), I don't think the AAC intended to rip-off the community at large. With such a limited venue, there will be plenty disappointment to go around. Unfortunate, yes... culpable? unknown. Hopefully, there will be something positive out of all this carnage. I know Layton is trying to get his new book project going- maybe this will kickstart it a bit.

It's the first show for Layton in 25 years, and aside from health concerns I'd guess he might have some trepidation about the performance. He's been a climber, not necessarily a showman. I don't know if he'd be comfortable with a crowd of 1000, so we might have to be happy with what there is. I'd also guess he's sorry that everyone with an interest won't be able to be in the audience. Best luck to those seeking tickets.

edit: looks like Layton better get psyched about a big crowd. Glad 'everyone' has a chance to get to the show.

honestly i am not heartbroken not to get tix. would have been cool, but not a huge deal. i am disappointed in the general principal of the matter. i just think with knowing how many people are really excited about this it is pretty poor form to start selling (and sell out!) before the advertised time tickets are to go on sale.
as the original post states (and it's linked from AAC's site) tickets were to go on sale at 10 a.m. MDT (not EDT or GMT or whatever). call me a cynic, but i wonder how many of those tickets went to buddy's of AAC workers. maybe in the future when they know the demand is going to far exceed the number of tickets they should hold a lottery like Rage did for their free show at the DNC. sounds like a lot of people feel wronged. i am not one of them cause i didn't try until after 11:00 so i am not whining or blaming someone for not getting the ticket. i am questioning the AAC's practice that seemed to cause so much confusion and disappointment. Would be nice to see a response from them on this thread.

If the Kor slide show is really and truly a benefit for Layton's medical expenses then those promoting the show should offer as many shows or as large a venue as possible so that the maximum amount of $$$$ can be collected to help the cause.

This shouldn't be a case of 'I got tickets and you didn't'. It should be 'we raised as much money as possible to help a truly legendary climber in his time of need.'

Again, it really is a benefit for Layton. If he could manage a second show, I'm sure he would, but who knows how he is feeling? Don't get put off because you didn't get tickets. I'm certainly not. It will be nice enough seeing Kor get a nice attendance, applause, and a check to go home with.

With the first round of tickets being sold out fast I've missed the opportunity to see the show because of my need to fly into Denver and jumping rates on airfare (missing a 21 day window to purchase).
