Mt Evans Cleanup - Saturday 18th August, 08
Submitted By: John McNamee on Aug 12, 2008
Before I get shot down and told that I shouldn't be posting this up as news as it's an event, well here it is, late notice of the Mt Evans cleanup!
Meet at Echo Lake Lower parking Lot at 10am, Saturday, 16th August. Hosted by the Access Fund and rocknJamn.
How about someone putting me in the loop so I can post these things up in plenty of time :-)

| The clean up is on the 16th, not the 18th. Please bring your own garbage bags & gloves. Feel free to email me with any questions: amy@rocknandjamn.com. |

| Good luck finding trash, you would probably find more trash searching where the hikers walk. |

| Just passing this along ...
This event has been rescheduled due to weather until Sunday at 10 AM at Echo Lake.
Wade, anyone who goes up there knows that there is little if any trash, pad remnants, the occasional misplaced water bottle, etc. this year. We are building relationships and good will with the rangers, who will presumably attend again this year. After the clusterbomb with the new guidebook, we need to prove that we are not all as short-sighted as guidebook authors who apparently don't know ANYTHING about the area and for all intents and purposes don't appear to care.
I believe there will be at least some focus on areas that may be able to be restored by improving drainage and directing social trails through less-sensitive areas. This work may or may not be able to be done this year. |

| Thanks for the schedule update, Chip.
Just to let people know, there was about 4-5 inches of snow as of last eve up around Summit Lake, with another 2-4 through today and precip continuing through Sunday morning; so expect cold & wet conditions; bring additional/necessary personal items for these conditions. |

| The Evans Clean & Climb was a huge success and I really want to thank those that showed up despite the cold and very wet conditions. There was indeed very little trash so we focused on improving the trails between the Ladder and Seurat by adding more rocks from the talus and redirecting the drainage flows in these areas. We also redirected several social trails from the willows up to the Dali. This year we had three rangers accompany us (Patti, Ralph and Marshall, yea!!), and I can't thank them enough for their time and expertise. Hiking tools in and out of Area A in a downpour isn't that much fun, so once again, a huge heartfelt thanks to everyone that came and helped improve an area we all love. Amy Carden |

| Amy thank you. Although I was not there and can hardly claim status as an Evans local, efforts like this are what keep the amazing areas like Evans open and in good shape. |
