Hi, we're a family from New Zealand and will be travelling around Colorado for the next 2 weeks or so, looking for some nice spots to chill out and climb with our kids. Needs to be all top-ropable, easy and moderate. Kids are 5 and 7.

If you have any suggestions we would really appreciate it! Also any good camp spots, we are in a 30ft RV, but have a tent too and can backpack a short distance to any primo camp sites.

Thanks heaps!
Hilary

Shelf Road outside of Cannon City would be great if it's not too hot. It has beautiful camping, all single pitch sport, well mark trails, lots of moderate climbs, walk to the climbs from camp. It's a pretty sweet spot, but we usually go there in the spring and fall.

By toprope-able I'm going to assume you mean easy access to the top to hang TRs without leading. For the front range, North Table mountain in Golden has the easiest top access that I know of. Its super hot in the summer though, so maybe go early morning or something. If your travels are taking you to the gunnison area, then check out Hartman rocks. Pretty easy top access for many routes, and lots of trails to explore by bike or foot. Just two places off the top of my head.

Happy travels!

Awesome thanks for the tips! I'll have a look. We are ok with lead-climbing to top rope for the kids. Also will be travelling through Utah and in fact all over the west for the next 3 months, so if you can think of any amazing spots that would suit us please let me know :)

Training Grounds at Devils Head. It has a great view of Pikes Peak, has an 'alpine' feel to it, large base area, kids can climb most of the routes with a little top rope tug at the reachy cruxes.
The Jungle is really just as good too, just downhill. The climbing is a little harder, but there's a lot of fun to be had for the kids with the dense shrubs and plenty of mud nearby.
Higher elevation so it's cooler than most other Colorado crags. No snakes or cactus either.
Independence Pass should be on your list too.

Go to Rifle mountain park. There is no better place for kids and climbing. I am there 3-4 days a week with my daughters, 5 & 7. They play in the creek, explore the ice caves, climb and swing all in 2-5 minutes from the car. You will not be disappointed. Climb the sno-cone wall in the morning. Go to the funny face in the afternoon.

Hey thanks for all the tips people! We had 4 awesome days at Devil's Head and a few at Rifle too - absolutely loved it! Off to Wyoming next.
