My heart dropped from excitement when I learned about getting a great job opportunity in TX....then I thought...wait...what is there to climb out there. Ive looked up a few places in the area but I was wondering if anyone lives nearby that could suggest some places/go out climbing. Thanks a bunch guys.

Head north to enchanted rock or reimers ranch. i go to school in Louisiana and had to drive all the way out there. its just west of Austin.

Thank you Chase! Have you been to Barton Creek to climb?

unfortunately i can't say that i have, but looking at it on MP I'm guessing its in the greenbelt. The greenbelt is pretty cool, just as austin is. Austin is hands down the coolest city in Texas. Has some pretty good climbing, and the music and bar scene is pretty awesome. But reimers is generally 5.hard sport routes. Enchanted rock is slabby trad.

I spend a lot of time in the barton creek Greenbelt. There are maybe a hundred bolted sport routes down there ranging from 5.6 to 5.13. All limestone and none more than 80 feet at their tallest. Some are only around 20 feet in height. Reimers and north shores boast hundreds of routes in all grades. Enchanted rock is granite trad and sport. Some good test piece crack climbs and the only place around to so any gear routes. Hit me up if you want to go check any of these out.

There are also other limestone crags in the area but the above will give you a good taste if what the Austin and surrounding areas offer for climbing.

You are really close to Enchanted Rock.

Get to HWY 290 north of you. Take 290 W. into Fredericksburg and hang a right at FM965. After 15 minutes look to your left - can't miss it. They sell a guide book stores.sharpendbooks.com/en… at the park entrance, or you can get what you need off of MP. A lot of good climbs out there, but most are on the backside of the Big Dome.

Fredericksburg Brewing Company is the place to hit after a day of climbing. Great beer and fantastic food. yourbrewery.com/

You are really close to the Austin area too. Reimers Ranch and Barton Creek are cool, but Enchanted Rock is a gem of Texas along with Hueco Tanks. It is a long drive to Hueco though.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
