Color coded racking carabiners

Im sure this will get derailed into a thread about how color coding gear is not necessary, but since I'm bored with winter I'll ask anyway, and I did try searching first. So i was playing with some gear and now considering what options are out there for racking some of my BD cams. I know of the neutrinos, phantoms, and fs minis (not a huge fan) com in color packs, but what are some other not too over priced options out there that will color match say #0.5-4. Here is what I found so far. Granted not all models I listed are made in the colors I am looking at.

DrApnea,

I am not sure about how many color coding options are out there outside of the ones you mentioned, but I have triples in the BD C4 and C3 cams and use the Neutrino rackpack. They are easy to see, easy to clip and light.

Do you already have biners? I know this is in the vein of the "It cost to much money" but I used nail polish to color code and could not be happier with the results. that being said, do i wish I had just bought a color coded whatever biner to match my cams. yep but I didn't have the money to replace 30 some odd carabiners that were already on cams

Currently Available, I'd get the Spectre 2s and Heliums

No rush? Wait until DMM releases the Alpha Trads in Colors for the best of both worlds

True they are good, but I'm not going to get started on whether or not you need a $13 carabiner for racking. Thanks for pointing out the missing green color.

Also I'm not looking for DIY color coding. (been there done that). I just want to know if there are any other carabiner options I'm overlooking. I already have the cams racked with some old BD light Ds, but am trying to separate gear out and move those over to an aid rack. Might as well replace the racking biners with color matched ones and lighten them up in the process Thanks for the replies.

In that case get the DMM biners both are great. If you have the money, Heliums are badass but I think its almost $70 for 6

color coded in a 6 pack and at neptune Mountaineering in Boulder Co. but honestly I think whatever you buy will be a improvement of those light D's. my money if i had it would go to some DMM biners my two cents

I have tried Wild Country Heliums, Metolius Fs minis, Camp Nano 23s, Petzl Ange S, Black Diamond Neutrinos, DMM Phantoms, Mammut Moses, and many others.

The DMM biners are fantastic. I use Phantoms and have 0 complaints. Quality is top notch, high open gate strength, great design - perfect size, lightweight, clip like a dream. The best there is right now, IMO.

I have high hopes that the soon-to-be-released DMM Alpha Light will be the even better.

Second choice right now would be the color coded Heliums. However, I am not a fan of full size biners for racking. A 3/4 size Helium (Hello DMM alpha light!!) would be the cat's meow IMO.

I once caught a fish |-----------THIS--------| big. WhyTF are you carrying around 150 biners on your rack?

Neutrino ~36g, Superfly ~30g. 1lb=~454g. 2lb*454g/lb/6g diff=~150 biners

Fun ensues as I figure out that besides being cheap, neutrinos are WAY heavier than my superflies, and now my rack's gone up a couple pounds for no good reason. Even if they come out with great biners colorcoded (they may have already, I don't get out much), it's still a triviality. As a beginner, I learned to grab gear quickly without looking for the piece. Now that I'm not a beginner, why would I need to spend 30 seconds looking at my harness to find the damn wires? This place is turning into the View...
Don't you see the irony? You are complaining about color coding and times changing while going on about the how heavy the nuetrinos are. They are wiregates! I though you old schoolers were supposed to be tough.

Just rack your wires on colored biners, and find a wiregate for the cams that is different than the draws. It's that simple.

just wait for the colored oz hoodwires from BD... or get whatever you want and know that something cooler/better/lighter is inevitably going to arrive someday

This is turning into The View. Everyone has an opinion and wants to share it. All I asked is what gear is available. Simple question, answered with facts; opinions not necessary. If you don't know, then move on to the next thread. I didn't ask for ways to rack or how old you feel since new gear is lighter now. Manufacturers make colored biners. All I wanted to know is if I was missing any in my quick search. Winter must be getting to you guys.

Well, the neutrinos are stupid light compared to the spirits I used to rack cams on.

Also, Killis' rack is about right if you climb long pitches anywhere but canyon country. If I don't know what I'm getting into other than crack climbing, what goes in the pack is about half again as large as that, so its very easy to see a 3/4 lb change in weight based on what racking biners I use.

My girlfriend likes the neutrinos, and honestly, I don't mind having every thing color coded when I'm grabbing crap from the gear box. Still, if I could go lighter, I definitely would.

I am all about light weight. But I have lightened up my rack a lot by having all nuitrinos. And they are cheap. So I would say bang for your buck they are the best way to color code and shave weight. And unless you are in a pure splitter for 200 feet leave some cams on your partners harness and place nuts.

Bang for buck it's the Neutrinos, $6 a biner 3/4 sized.

However the green on my Neutrino is crap and hard to tell apart from the grey (may just be a problem with mine).

Best (IMO) is the Phantoms. 3/4 sized, 26g instead of 36g for the Neutrinos but $9 a biner. Is being 3/4 the weight worth 50% more (and a better green), only you can answer that.

$6 is overpriced - on sale for ~$4.50 is what sealed the deal for me. I'd rather keep the weight in my wallet.

That is what did it for me too. Color used to be expensive, now it isn't.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
