Do you recognize this climber? Have you ever heard about the "Old School" routes of the Stronghold? Inspired to try them?
We are honored to have Dave Baker, historical first ascentionist and Stronghold pioneer, attending the Adopt A Crag to give an intimate presentation/slideshow about "his" time in the Stronghold. The energy, feeling, love and magic of the place is no better conveyed then by Dave.
Saturday night, the campfire, the stars, will all be the same as it was 25 years ago after they finished the FA in this picture. Be carried away in time to a world of climbing before cams, sticky rubber and tick lists.
Thank you Dave for ALL you do! From inspiring us to teaching us about the spirit of adventure!

I hope everyone decides to help with either or both Local Climbing Organizations.

Scott C and SACC, good luck with your Adopt a Crag!

I'm so excited for this Adopt A Crag! I'm excited to camp, climb, get my hands dirty, and hang out with friends old and new. I hope anyone who's interested will join in; there's an amazing crew forming. And so much thanks to Dave for the presentation! He's the best storyteller ever, especially when it comes to his foolhardy and reckless younger years.

See you there!

That was probably best John, from a climber to Forest service point of view.

But is does make me uncomfortable on a free speech level. Kind of like burning books or governments blocking web sites. Who are you or I to decided what is acceptable for everyone else?

Besides, a forum that has as it's only content a bunch of warm and fuzzy, kumbaya, let all hug and be friends, would get pretty dull very quickly.

Do we read books or watch TV that is free of conflict? Hell even Green Eggs and Ham had conflict.

Jim, censoring posts makes me uncomfortable as well; however, the status quo obviously was not working. Vigorous debate is still encouraged but pointless vitriol will not be tolerated. The line between where one ends and the other starts is gray. Hence if you feel that I cross the line let me know either publicly or privately.

+1 Jim

It reminds me of Facebook. No DIS-like button ?? That's just kumbayah BS.

When someone asks me about learning to put up routes my first instruction is: grow some thick skin.

"With my Triple-Sling Jigger I sure felt much bigger.

I marched to the Wall with great vim and great vigor, right up to VanItch with my hand on the trigger. “I’ll have no more nonsense,” I said with a frown, “from Zooks who eat bread with the butter side down!”

VanItch looked quite sickly. He ran off quite Quickly.

I’m unhappy to say he came back the next day in a spiffy new suit with a big new machine, and he snarled as he said, looking frightfully mean, “You may fling those hard rocks with your Triple-Sling Jigger. But I, also, now have my hand on a trigger! "
