The Actual Cave... Burdo relates the tale of its naming best, a friend was talking down his cave fever saying 'it's not an ACTUAL cave'; 2 which Bryan replied 'well, a bear could live in it.' And that settled the discussion, it was an Actual Cave.

The cave is the place to be for cool summer conditions, really steep (truly horizontal) gymnastic movement, glory buckets, etc. Counter-intuitively, the cave is best in the summer. Because of seepage and condensation its wet from October to mid June some years. However the cave itself is about 20 degrees cooler than the trail outside, plus it is somewhat shaded, north facing, and hardly ever sees sun. It's 100% the best conditions in high summer in western WA.

As for the routes, they are short and all have somewhat a chance of decking, but everything else is great. Giant is probably the best 5.11 in North Bend. Mr. Big (the extension) is probably the only other route that has seen many ascents. All of the cave was rebolted in summer 2022 and several of the routes were sort of re routed: Bikini Girls has a logical bolt situation, Beef has a straight finish that makes it a tad harder. Cyanide with safe bolts is a seriously underrated 12b. We were fairly certain Spartacus never saw a second ascent until August 2022 it is certainly 13a, and a far different style 13a than most you'll find in the vicinity (hard horizontal v7 to rest to pumpy juggy 45 degree climbing).

Club Paradiso contains some fun looking juggy moderates, but if you have a wet year these will be soaked the ENTIRE year round. If you have a dry year you might get a week and a half in late August.

Getting There Suggest change

From the Iron Horse trail head hike up the hill to where the old rail track used to be. Take a right and walk 5- 10 minutes down the trail. You will see a track going down on your left. You follow this and go up into the woods for about 20 mintues. There will be a left turn after an old logging cable. This leads to amazonia. Continue up past the cable and you will get to Club Paradiso and the Cave which are on the right. There are more crags further up the trail.
