Description
One of the highest and most reliable winter crags in Wales, North facing and sitting at 900m elevation at the back of Cwn Cneifion (the nameless cwm). Although a small crag, it is one of the most important in Wales for cutting edge mixed climbs.
A good introduction to the mixed climbing here is the ever popular El Mancho or Manx Wall (VI 7), then work your way up through Spectral Wall (VII 7), Traversty (VIII 8), Cracking up (IX 9),...
As with all winter climbing in North Wales, it is essential to wait for good conditions to avoid damaging the rare and fragile flora that reside on the cliffs. Climbing unfrozen (or even "a bit mushy") turf is unacceptable and could jeopardize access in the future. This is particularly important to bear in mind on the Clogwyn Du mixed routes, since they often rely on frozen turf.

Getting There
From the car park at Ogwen Cottage, take the good footpath up to Llyn Idwal. Walk around the lake on its East side until you go through a metal gate. At this point, start the slog up the hillside on the right, into a hidden cwm. Clogwyn Du is on the right, just below the summit plateau.
About 90 minutes walk at a decent approach pace.
