| I'm a big fan of my Dakine Poacher pack. Has all the carrying capabilities you're looking for (shovel, skis, ice tools, crampons, helmet, etc.), and it's very comfortable. Great hydration system, and it's well-designed. It drains and breathes pretty well if something inside gets wet. It's got a great full-length zipper access to the main compartment through the portion that rests against your back - it unzips on two sides and completely folds open to let you in to the main compartment without going through the top. I've been using it for about a year and a half, and the only complaint I have with it is that the Nalgene pocket on the side isn't really deep enough. But I never use that pocket for a water bottle anyway, especially not if I'm climbing something steep. | |

| Check out the Mountain Hardwear South Col. I just bought one at Bent Gate on sale for $230 for a 6 day solo mountaineering trip. It has every feature you could want as far as attaching things and it is really light weight. | |

| Backcountryaccess.com They're a local company. I did some drywall work in their warehouse and ended up with a pack, the Alp55. I've been using it for ice/mixed climbing for a while now. It holds ALL of my stuff at about 50+lbs. As well it has pockets for avy probes, shovel, side access to the main compartment, and an insulated winter hydration system. The pack is primarily for B-C skiing, but suits me well as a non-skier but a climber. Hope this helped! | |
