That depends on what you mean. Do you mean total? Or do you mean to the consumer. Companies, like REI, anticipate the amount that they will sell in a season, but that isn't necessarily how much are sold to the climbing population. There are drawers and boxes full of cams at gear shops all over the country that have been "bought" by the company, but haven't made it to the consumer yet.
I would ask BD directly if I were you. I work at an REI and at times have over 60 camalots in the store,(especially during sale events). This happens several times a year. Multiply that by the number of REI's around the country, and then add private gear shops, and online orders I'm sure that the numbers get pretty high!
Keep in mind your numbers might be a tad off because you are working in Boulder.
I've been in other REI's and the gear was dusty. In CO, I'd say the majority of "climbers" at least dabble in trad. Where I am now, I'd say maybe 10% play the trad game.
But, yeah, I bet there's a lot. Another question I have that could give a rough estimate is "how many climbers(people who own rope and rack(or pad) and climb outside at least once a year) are there in the world"
