| The Edelweiss Sharp 10.5 60m double dry was the first rope that I ever bought almost four years ago. Though I have since replaced it with a new "lead rope" the Sharp is my trusted workhorse for setting up TR's and for leading anything where I know there will be unavoidable rope abrasion and edges. It is my go-to rope for TR soloing as it is confidence inspiring beyond my other thinner cords.
Also, I have recently started solo aiding and I find myself choosing the Sharp over anything else for the same reasons as above. It locks off well in a Gri-Gri and can be trusted for safe jugging more than my other ropes. (NOT talking about Big Walls here, you'd probably want an 11mm for that).
Even with ~4 years of use the sheath of this rope is in excellent condition. It is not frayed out and furry like many other ropes I have seen and there are no soft spots throughout the length. I think the Sharp is a surprisingly resilient rope (at least in the 10.5 size) and I would recommend it to anyone that wants their rope to stand up to the demands of rock climbing. Whereas ropes like BlueWater feel very loose and buttery I think the Edelweiss models are more spry and rigid, so I guess it's a question of what feel you like best.
My rope was neither bi-color nor center marked, so I bought the BlueWater rope marker and it worked very well. If this is the kind of feature you like you may want to see if they offer any bi-pattern models of the Sharp.
Also, if you are looking for a thinner line, my assumption is that you will see comparable longevity with even better handling than my 10.5. The obvious trade-off for the 10.5 is the weight of the cord, but this is to be expected.
Sorry for a long response, I hope something up there helps your decision. | |
