I don't like the 5.10 Guide Tennie either. I tried them once, and they are extremely light, but just didn't like the fit. I use my 5.10s for all around approaches and trail running, so the Insight is designed best for that I think. The guide tennie might be a decent big wall shoe though since they have a more technical profile in the toe, but they really didn't look durable enough to me for that.

My favorite 5.10 approach shoe design was the Mountain Master they had a few years ago. I owned two pair of those before they changed to the new line. That was an excellent all around shoe and had a more secure lacing system around the upper of the shoe and ankles. For me, it made them much more secure on talus, unlike the Insight which tends to allow your foot to shift around too much unless you crank them super tight. Maybe some compromise between the two models would end up being perfect. Perhaps I should send them a letter!

I used the Mountain Master and although I liked it, felt it to be a bit too bulky.
Now the Insights are frakkin amazing and I wear them all over. The rand is coming up in spots now but its nothing a bit of barge cement won't fix.
I just got the Evolv Strykers and I'm not sure about them yet. the rubber is waay stiffer and I guess I'm not used to them? I'll keep trying them out though.

Cheeeeech!!!

5.10 DAEscent. hands down. I used to have a sweet pair of red Sportiva "Superfly" tennies. Those things have benn EVERYWHERE. 40+ miles of hiking in the Valley on top of aid climbing a bit in them.
Multiple trips to Longs Peak as well as an ass load of other hiking/scrambling. I had them for a good 3 years of heavy abuse before being forced to retire them.

I searched long and hard for a comparable shoe. Everyting was either too heavy and bulky or . . .to heavy and bulky. I found these to be my answer. They are wicked light and compressable so they pack well and are easy to carry up a route with you. They are not stiff ( I hate stiff shoes). But I have in the last month, made 2 trips to Longs 40~lbs (bivy stuff, climbing gear and food for four days) Including a double summit day where we climbed the Diamond hike off the back and down the Loft to the Flying buttress and then scrambled to the summit of Mt. Meeker. Anything not roped, was done in these shoes and I gotta say, they performed GREAT!
So yeah, 2 trips to longs, 1 trip to Spearhead, 1 trip to The Saber and multiple days in to the book area at lumpy and a bunch of shorter Eldo approaches!!
I'd say so far they have about 50-60 miles on them and they're holdin up pretty well. The only signs of wear are the toe caps. They are kinda peeling a little but it's because walk stupid. I always snag my toe under rocks and logs when I hike uphill.
Hope this helps!

I really really love my Evolv Stryker's, comfy, burly, sticky, a tad heavy compared to some of FiveTen's approach shoes, but better in many aspects. After some workers at my gym got the Rex's, they really liked those, but they didn't last very long and were not meant for more than casual approaches.
