My dad is into nature and hiking but im going to need to find a climbing partner in the vally for the time im there which will be late june, im 16 and do alot of trad climbing in the Adirondacks and the gunks (where im from) and lead trad 5.11 and sport something in the 12's. itd be really cool to tag along with someone who has alot of experience in yosemite, reply if you have any interest im super psyched.

Climbing in the valley that late is *possible* (anything's possible, right?), but it can be utterly miserable. Again, crazy climate change notwithstanding, the best times to hit Yosemite are the Spring and Fall.

Spring gives you longer days to hike up longer routes and walls, but more tourons. Fall handcuffs you to less daylight hours, but the park feels a lot less like Disneyland. If you're stuck to a late June schedule, check the weather up at Squamish. World class white water kayaking, mountain biking and stellar granite climbing- trad, sport and bouldering.

Either way, you will have no problem finding sun blazed partners at C4 for anything you're looking to climb, free or aid.

Good luck!

Climbing in the Valley during the summer is totally feasible, as evidenced by the fact that there are always a ton of people there that time of year. You will enjoy the climbing more if you avoid south facing climbs at 1 p.m., but even then you can climb in the morning, afternoon, hop on shaded stuff, or do longer climbs, where it's substantially cooler several pitches up.

You'll have no problem meeting people. The Camp 4 bulletin board is good for that. It can be caveat emptor in terms of who may be looking for partners, but since it is a really trad area, they're probably more reliable (i.e. safe) than your average pack of gym rats getting their trad on. I took a bus by myself to the Valley when I was 16 (back in the dark ages) and had no problem meeting folks. It was a great summer. In three weeks time I did lots of classics like Nutcracker, Royal Arches, E. Butt of MCR, Lost Arrow Tip, NW Face of Half Dome, etc. It was an awesome summer and I would have totally missed it if I was worried about being hot.

Brain fart! If you're coming here in June/July, don't overlook Tuolumne or Lee Vining. It's much cooler, camping's easier and there are a ton of star heavy lines to chase after. It's also easy to find partners around the campsite, general store board or online.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to scare you away from the valley. It's just an amazing place when you don't have to work around the high Fahrenheit suffering. You'll be chugging a lot more water on the captain in July. A lot.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
