Climbing partners at Michigan Ice Fest?

I've been climbing rock for about 6 years, but this is my first ice festival, so I don't know how the logistics work. I've only climbed ice a few times but now have the minimum gear to toprope.

I don't have any climbing buddies going to this since they all climb sport. Am I better off looking for a group once I get there, or trying to make some connections in advance? What do the beginners generally do at these things besides taking clinics?

Hey,

I'm in a similar boat. I moved to ann arbor a few months ago and just picked up ice gear (including 8 screws). I'll probably be at ice fest looking for people to climb with. Might even be looking for a ride up there.

Hi guys, it shouldn't be an issue to ever find a group to climb with that weekend. Just be outgoing and ask people once you are there Friday and sat nights.

Also, the curtains area will have ropes hung by the fest for people to get on all day long as well as fest belayers. Look for then in the same yellow puffy jackets.

Hey all,
I'm hoping to be able to get up to Michigan Icefest this year, but work will determine that. Anyway, I was once a new guy and showed up to Sandstone, MN alone and met a bunch of people, to include Jon, and have climbing partners all over the place now. Hope to get up there and meet more potential climbing partners.

Jon,

Thanks for the info. I'm looking forward to heading up there, and will try Curtains area.

GT,

Can't help with the ride since I'm coming up through Wisconsin. But PM me if you want to get together there to climb.

Z.

I just signed up for the rigging and rescue class. First year climbing ice, but I've been tugging on rock for a few years now.

Definitely looking to find other folks in the surrounding area to climb with...I'm in Rapid River...

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
