Can anyone please give an update as to what is open?
It looks like from the Santa Fe forest maps that UEF is still in the closed area around VC. What about the dungeon? I know the approach is burnt, what about the cragging area itself?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the info George, I agree we need to keep up the image. Last thing we want is for climbers to get a bad reputation.

There is enough open to not have to "skirt the line" saying to ourselves "its OK" because we supposedly know the FS is going to open it up in a couple of days anyway. Makes us look bad to non-climbers who see the cars parked there.

Thanks again for the update.

Given the severity of the impact of fires on climbing in New Mexico am disappointed at the lack of current and accurate information provided by Mountain Project. Does anyone really know (or care) or just blinded by selfish pursuits?

Here's part of the map attached to the USFS Las Conchas fire closure order (quoted by George above):

Order No.10-358

UEF is clearly within the closed area, and A37.

Las Conchas proper, may be less clear. Is there an "Open" sign at the trailhead?
Let me muddy the waters: the text of the closure order suggests the closed area boundary goes due north from the Las Conchas trailhead (which might therefore include the start of the trail and most of the climbing crags, until the river turns west?); but the closure map makes it look like the boundary line is a couple hundred feet east of there, along the north-south section line between Sections 4 and 5 (which would leave Las Conchas out of the closure). I guess someone could call the USFS for clarification.

Last Chance Canyon?

Based on the closure notice posted on the USFS website last April, and no indication that it's since been lifted, I take it that LCC is still closed? (No mention of this on MP.com's LCC page, though).

As of right now, there aren't any fire restrictions that effect climbing areas. For more information on New Mexico Fire Closures, check out publiclands.org/firenews/NM….

LCC still closed as per conversation with ranger district. this also affects sitting bull falls. please be respectful or closure. i have already notified the access fund as some plans to close the area to climbing for meny yrs have been mentioned. please be careful with fires even when there is no burn ban.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
