Anyone know of any good Climbing near Newport, WA? Could be Alpine, ice, rock, bouldering or any other outdoor activity. Within say 2 hours. I believe that gives Canada, Idaho and quite a range. Just don't have any experience in the area. Also any activities like skiing or backpacking are game as well.

Thanks.

There is a lot of stuff. For sport pick up Marty Bland's inland northwest book. Laclede would be the closest thing. For trad you have the stuff in the Idaho panhandle but all of it will be covered in snow now. The Spokane town crags, and then the limestone up north by colville. Tons of skiing both backcountry and resort. China bend will be open until feb 15 th and if its sunny you can climb there still. Bouldering at Tum Tum can be good in the winter as well. Closest ice I know of is banks lake but I would bet there are things in the panhandle that I don't know much about. Hope that helps. I just moved here a few months ago and my wife's mom has a place out by Newport. If you want to get out and climb sometime let me know. shotgunnelson

Laclede is the closest. Have you had a chance get over there and explore?. Sandpoint Rock Gym is a great local resource to find out information on the panhandle alpine routes. J.Luthy
