Climbing Magazine....broken?

I recently saw on FB that several of my friends had an article done on them in Climbing. In fact, I even saw a PDF with full color linked to it.

So, I popped on over to climbing.com to check out their latest issue. So, yeah, the "current" issue is october 2013 and all the back issues are behind that.

It's like a 2 year time capsule.

The website doesn't seem defunct. I've recently (not this issue) seen it available in bookstands. It totally still exists. Probably.

Have they changed domains and left the old one alive? I can't seem to google a new one if that's the case.

Has the web developer been eaten by a mountain lion?

It's perplexing.

Same today. I sicced a librarian on it, and apparently you can still get print, or subscribe to digital (through zinio only, it appears), but that's it. My library carries zinio subscriptions, but had dropped climbing because it wasn't circulating. She was very interested to know that it didn't check out because zinio hadn't been offering any new ones since May! She also told me they (zinio) has been sneaking in old mags in some titles.

You should be able to get to the issue your friends are in, via zinio, but might have to buy a copy. Singles are only 99¢. Might be worth asking at your library if you don't want to spend any money, just on principle.

Anyone have any answers on the web site?

So buying the magazine isn't the issue at all. I just wanted the paper copy.

If they're still in print, I guess I should check out the local Barnes and Noble and see if they have it. No climbing stores in this town.

Didn't they bury it with Harvey Carter when he passed away? You know, like rolled it up in a spliff and put it in the casket.

Climbing magazine is still in print.

If you really want to know about the website, I think your best answers will come from contacting Climbing directly. Or you can get second-hand info and rumors here on MP. Whichever you prefer.

I prefer the second hand rumors. It's better for the community.

It's back online. Looks like digital is available also.

I subscribe to Climbing digitally through the iTunes store. Works just fine.

Climbing Magazine was great up until the early 90s, then instead of asking climbing legends to write awesome articles they got college school idiots to wax philosophical on subjects they don't know anything about. Headline articles are on climbing lyfe bullshit while month-long epics in the wilderness became nth-page footnotes. More than half the magazine is porn for gear-heads.

Last I looked, Rock & Ice was pretty good, however.

This has nothing to do with what I asked. Maybe you don't like it because you have terrible reading comprehension.

BTW, even though it's not online, I did find it at the store.

Glad you found your friends bit of fame! : )
