PLEASE stay off the sandstone! It takes a minimum of 24 hours of SUN and warm temps (<75 degrees F) to dry SUNNY routes. Yesterday was not sunny at all and was cold, nothing dried out. It is dissapointing to see parties still going up after the rain and after suggesting the rock being wet. Shady aspects need many days to dry with the cooler weather and the amount of precip we have had in the last week and a half.
Please be respectful and patient and allow the routes to fully dry, if you can't vegas has had better weather and currently is in great condition, there is also limestone in st.george that is of very high quality. People have put in a lot of hard work to clean and establish these routes and it would be a bummer for routes to be permanantly altered because you HAD to climb.

For those who weren't in Zion during the rain, how bad was it? It barely rained a drop at RR.

I'd like to climb there tomorrow

Anyone have thought/suggestions on how to stop the climbers from getting on the stone to early.
Involvment from Rangers? (Citing climbers)
Local beat down? (Wolfpack style)
Signs at entrance?
Etc.etc.

Anyone?

Signs would help. Most people are oblivious. People like me who are just driving in would have no clue it rained.

Yeah, right James.

Unless there is a convenient online bulletin nobody is going to look up shit, let alone do a white pages search for some unknown store that has odd hours

I get your point about climbing shops, but there are other, even better resources...

It's really that hard to call the park service in Zion NP?

Or Red Rocks?

Or Moab?

For how much of a climbing destination Moab, Indian creek and other desert areas are, the "out of towners," "out of staters," or international visitors have little to know idea that climbing sandstone after a rain is a bad idea. So they won't know to check conditions. Seems like posting signs are areas would be the most visible way BUT will people TURN around and go home once they're already at the trail head?

It would at least notify them and then land on there conscience, where they could then make a decision. Which would stop a few people. Not all. But it's a start.. (would it turn them back home?) Hope not! there is a lot of fun stuff to do in the desert..

This is a big issue in Indian creek as well. Last spring supercrack buttress was wet, climbers acknowledged that the Rock was still wet, yet continued to climb on it. We met 'locals' who were climbing the wet cracks as well. It was quite disappointing, especially since the rock dried out a few hours later. People are selfish.
