We are a couple from denver that are passionate about climbing. We are relocating for work and thought this would be a good place to get some help finding a house for rent. We are clean quiet couple that love anything outdoors and are about to start are new lives in salt lake city.

If you can help contact me. I am natasha @ 7206609794.
Thanks. Climb on!

ksl.com is generally the best place to look for rentals online in slc - there are generally more listings there than craigslist. Driving around the neighborhoorhood you are interested in works better yet.

You'll get better responses if you say what size place, price range, and where you are looking.

We are really looking forward to this new adventure.

How long are you looking to rent for? Short term or long term?

What exactly do you mean by south of Salt Lake City? Cottonwood Heights or Sandy? Draper? Lehi? Provo? The Wasatch Front is a big place.

You won't have any trouble finding an apartment in that price range or less. You can probably find a small house for rent as well in either a not totally prime location or condition. No idea what Utah county is like if you are looking that far south, but in salt lake county rent is generally cheaper the further west you go. Going west puts you further from climbing, but traffic isn't much of an issue here so you can find a balance.

Not sure if you've spent much time in Utah, but the further south you go from Salt Lake City the bigger the culture shock can be.

Thanks everyone for the replies and info. My name is Matthew, the other half ;)

KSL has been very useful.

We were thinking Southern SLC to be that much closer to Moab, Zion, etc yet we are not limited to the south. We do not require a lot of space nor the newest construction, however we prefer not to live in high crime areas. Our perfect place would be a spot in the mountains with trees.

Here are some of the minimum amenities we are looking for.

1 or more bedrooms
Fenced yard for the quietest and most mellow lab would be nice.
Kitchen with good counter space as we enjoy cooking.
Within 45 minutes of downtown SLC.

We plan on living in Utah for a minimum of 2 years, if we stay longer we will look at purchasing. We are open to short/long term or even rent to own.
We believe we will be moving just before or around Thanksgiving.

I also have tools and can help with upkeep and/or light remodeling.

The max we are looking to spend on rent right now is 1050 a month, but that is on the high end as we adjust to SLC. Just hoping for the perfect situation.

Thanks again, for past and future input.

I wouldn't get hung up on being south to be closer to Moab. It doesn't take more than 15-20 minutes to get from downtown to point of the mountain, and traffic is nonexistent here by Denver standards. It is worth noting that the further south you go, the more cookie cutter(huge subdivisions surrounded by the same few chain restaurants and stores) and LDS dominated it gets. This may or may not be an issue for you, but it is something to be aware of.

Salt Lake doesn't really have any high crime areas by the standards of other major cities. If your immediate neighbors look ok, you are fine.

Utah is the wrong state for a place in the mountains with trees!

The biggest stock of small inexpensive to rent single family homes is going to be in Rose Park(west and a bit north of downtown), the whole area west of Liberty Park just south of downtown, Canyon Rims, Millcreek, and Murray. Cottonwood Heights and Sandy would likely be your most preferred location since they are right at the mouth of the Cottonwood canyons, but most of the houses are going to be bigger and newer so a house in your price range might be hard to find. Millcreek is probably your best option to be closest to climbing and small house with a yard with reasonable rent.

Sounds like you may want to look in Cottonwood Heights or Millcreek. Those will put you closer to the local climbing, and maybe 10-15 min closer to zoin/moab, but insignificant difference in the long run.

There are a few places, saw some lots for sale up Logan canyon. Definitely not like the mountains east and west of here though.

I agree with what most are saying about location though. Further south isn't much closer to Moab when the drive is already over three hours long. We moved here a year ago and got lucky finding a place near-ish Liberty Park. Sugarhouse isn't bad but it's being rebuilt by the day into the place to be. Anywho, we really like the area here between Liberty Park to 2100 S and from state street east. The higher up in the valley you get (i.e. east) the pricier it gets is also worth noting. Oh, and another note would be that the fault line basically runs north along 1300 east, if that concerns you or not.

A friend of mine owns this house he rents. Close to downtown SLC. airbnb.com/rooms/743241?s=dHNR
