Friday, December 17, Rocktown is holding a special benefit event for our friend and Oklahoma climber, Russell Hooper. Russell Hooper has been fighting cancer since 2002 and is now on in-home hospice care. The expenses of life care, along with daily living expenses for himself and his family are mounting up and we want to help.
All day (from 2 pm -10 pm) Rocktown will donate proceeds from all sales (passes, memberships, gear...everything) and all donations to Russell Hooper and his family.
In the spirit of giving we would like as many people as possible - climbers and others - to help raise as much money as possible.
Russell Hooper, is a native Oklahoman, and has been climbing for over 30 years and is, by all accounts, an icon in the climbing community. Russell is a board member of the Wichita Mountains Climbers Coalition, and has introduced countless climbers (young and old) to the sport of climbing. In addition to climbing, Russell is an accomplished marathon and ultra-marathon runner.
Russell lives in Oklahoma City with his wife, Kelly and their 2-year-old son, Logan. In 2002 Russell was diagnosed with heart cancer. Since then he has undergone numerous treatments which have provided him valuable time. Treatment costs, essential life care costs, and daily expenses have mounted. Within the last few weeks, Russell has been transitioned to in-home hospice care. Russell and his family need our help now. In the spirit of giving, we hope you will consider joining us for a day of climbing to benefit Russell and his family during this time of need.
Day-of Details: Please bring CASH or check. These go further than credit card payments and can be given directly to Russell's family.
