Description Suggest change

This small, easily accessible crag is located a short distance off of the Jebel Jais road in Wadi Shehah. On Google Maps, this area is labeled "Stienkovyi Peak."

The climbing is in a canyon that is visible from the road. The left side of the canyon has at least 30 routes, many of them very easy. The right side of the canyon has at least a half dozen routes. In mid-March, the left side of the canyon is generally in the shade after 11am. The right side of the canyon is in the sun for most of the day.

The routes on the lower left wall are popular with groups and beginners. Almost all have fixed anchors on top and there is a cable connecting most anchors, so that you can be clipped in while rigging top ropes.

Getting There Suggest change

This small area is located roughly 11 miles (17.9k) NNE of the center of Ras Al-Kahaimah ("RAK"). The cliff is on the way to the highly developed tourist attraction of Jebel Jais, which is very well signed. If you have time, it is worth driving up the amazing Jebel Jais road. The amount of elevation gained and the infrastructure that has been built is quite something.

From a prominent roundabout NNE of RAK (coordinates of 25.841062, 56.105805), drive roughly northeast toward Jebel Jais for about 3.6 miles (5.8k). The coordinates for the turn off from the Jebel Jais road are 25.8892610, 56.1055848. From this point on the Jebel Jais road, the canyon will easily be seen about 450 meters to the northwest.

Turn left off the main road onto a small dirt road. Go roughly 30 meters down the dirt road and park on the left, making sure that you aren't blocking access to the local properties. If there are local residents around, it would be polite to ask if you can park and access the cliff.

From the parking spot, walk up and left on the gravel road, passing a silver pipe gate. Continue up the deteriorating gravel roadbed, which leads to a concrete water catchment basin. Above the basin is a path that contours about 50 yards across the slope to the bottom of the canyon. Total approach is about 500 meters and takes about 10-15 minutes.
