Description Suggest change

This area was clear cut by logging activities in about 2014 0r 2015 and there are no living trees in the meadow. The only plants are mullins and others that prefer disturbed soils. This was once a beautiful peaceful grotto - once graced by a pile of timber 30' high right smack in the center of the draw, but in 2017 the pile was slash burned. The mullins and irritating plants have lessened quite a bit (2020). The one climb (2015) faces southeast, on warm winter days with sun is nice and warm and conversely, in the summer on a blazing hot day with not one pine cone for shade - you will roast. And the north wind is blocked nicely.

Getting There Suggest change

Park as you would for Westworld just west of Breezy Point picnic area on SD 244. Don't, don't block the gate and allow for additional vehicles, although, we have only seen a second vehicle here on a couple occasions. Hike up old road about 175 yards, look across the draw to the north, there is a tower separated from the others by a grassy gully. The tower on the right is Clearcut. Head towards the tower and note the nice crack on the left side and maybe you can see through the crack. Sunlight shines through the crack a few days in late summer. This is Clearcut Tower.
