Hello all,

The Access Fund's Jeep Conservation Team will be leading a volunteer trail building effort at the Wall of the 90's in Clear Creek Canyon Park on July 07, 2012 @ 9:00 AM. Due to the scope of this project we are limiting the number of participants to 20.

Those interested in pitching in and building the first official climbing access trail in Clear Creek Canyon should contact Mike Morin (mmorin@jeffco.us) to sign up.

Thanks!

great idea!

you know i would be there if i was in town. my early efforts using re-bar on the far right trail are probably washed out by now, but hopefully some of the steps are still in place.

Thanks guys, props to Monty for getting in touch with me whilst on the road, and suggesting we take another run at this project. We had planned to do it earlier this year with OS Trails staff, but got snowed out.

Thanks Mike and Dave for setting this up. Unfortunately I'll be out of town that weekend so I can't pitch in this time.

Here's some more info on the Access Fund Conservation Team. My self and Jeff have been on the road since February traveling around the country leading stewardship projects at several different climbing areas. It's really great to get an oppurtunity to work at our home crag. This project has been a long time coming and will help spearhead many more to come in CCC.

Here is the latest video we made from our 2 weeks in the New River Gorge in WV.

GOCO just awarded Jefferson County and Clear Creek County 4.6 million dollars to construct the western portion of the trail. We will be providing matching funds for the project and will have to complete the segment in 3 years; Clear Creek County must do the same. The segment will run from Mayhem Gulch to Tunnel 5.

Any word on a trail up to Canal Zone/Twilight Zone?

Last time we walked from the parking lot on 6th to avoid that thing.

We are being held up by legalities around the fact that the ditch is not owned by Open Space. We own the land around and under the ditch, but the ditch itself is technically private property. We are working to gain ownership of the ditch so that we can construct a trail. It's recognized that it's an awful approach, but there isn't much we can do right now. Know that as soon as we can we intend to fix the approach.

For now though, consider heading left when you leave the bridge, head east and begin looking up hill for an old road that will bring you up to the ditch. It's far more sustainable than the approach that brings you up the steep hill side.

We will be working the trail that brings people to the right side of the cliff. There will be some new tread constructions as well as upgrading of existing "social trails" involved in making this new trail. Down the road we hope to tackle the trail that heads up to the left side.

Well the weather cooperated on Saturday and we now have a pretty sweet climbing access trail at the Wall of the 90's in Clear Creek Canyon. 9 motivated volunteers, plus Dave and Jeff from the Access Fund worked to improve this area for the rest of the climbing community.

Thank you to everyone that joined us for this project and thanks to the two climbers that bought us a pitcher of beer at GCB afterwards.

Great trail day, I had a lot of fun and I think we did a fantastic job in a short amount of time! ;-) The new trail is soooo much better. Thanks to Mike, Jeff and Dave for getting it all organized. Cheers!

Went back Sunday and found it was being used--there wasn't any
parking, so it was up and back just to see how it looked--good!
