Cleaning up MP--Post Deletions

Hey Mods!

Good work!

Just noticed you FINALLY been cracking down on certain users who seem to think they are entitled to hijack every thread and serial post utter nonsense.

I got disgusted and left, so why don't we just argue this out here on this thread, instead of hijacking threads where posts have been deleted (just noticed quite a few Mod deletions in the clipping anchors thread in the gear forum) and whining there.

I for one was kinda put off by all the obnoxious pics folks posted that had NOTHING to do with the given thread.

Well where are all of you on this?

Why was that post just deleted? There was nothing even remotely offensive in it. I was asking a serious question.

@Yarp - why was it deleted? Because you are being an ass. Go troll somewhere else.

You are here by your own volition, but the content of this site is at the will and discretion of those who administer it. If you're so displeased with it, you can always request that your account be terminated.

Free will...it works both ways...

I wish there was a way for the offensive post to be hidden, but accesible via a link. Otherwise there is know way to determine who is in the wrong. The majority of the time I think the admins get it right, but I also think sometimes they pick on particular folks...
Without being able to see the actual post that are being deleted I guess we will never know.

I actually wasn't censored...until a minute ago. I just cut and pasted that text from someone else who was.

Now you know!

In any case, this censorship is getting very tiring. Perhaps we should lay off the ban hammer a little here.

Reminds me of Olsen going through and trying to correct everyone's grammar a few years back.

Keep up the good work mods. Hopefully the negative nancies will get tired of it and leave.

It is unfortunate that it came to this. This site has only 1 major guideline. It really isn't that hard to follow.

Or maybe they just disagree with the trolls/agree with the mods and are voicing their opinion.

I'm sure none of your posts ever come across as self-righteous.

This. A thousand times this.
You want offensive posts to be hidden, great. But we all have different sensitivities. This shit now reads like a bad version of 1984.

Kinda seems like quite a few of you don't get that this is NOT some public place where freedom of expression etc. SHOULD apply.

You know, the Orwell references. "Help help I'm being oppressed!"

Let's turn it on its head, so some of you are saying the OWNERS of the site should have their right to control their business taken away?

Or put another way, do you think the problem children would NOT get their asses tossed out of a bar for behaving poorly, irritating the paying guests and otherwise killing a chill vibe?

I am all for censorship, but I am also for acountability. The admin's can censor whoever he or she pleases. They just need to realize that if people feel like they can not have a different opinion than the admins then they will leave and this community will die.

@coldfinger, a couple problems with your Bar scenario:
1. None of us our paying guests.
2. If the Bar owner kicks out too many patrons it will cease to be a bar, and will simply be an empty building with lots of drinks.

There were no cries for help in 1984 but I'll let that one slide.

I personally think it would be nice if posts deemed offensive by the admins could simply be hidden. A lot of websites do that with their comment threads. When things start looking like swiss cheese and stop making sense due to too many hidden posts, it's nice to have the option to look at them. We all have a different definition of what an assholish post is and I don't particularly need to be protected against what gets posted on here. Now I understand decisions need to be made in the name of the majority of respectful users. If this means stepping on a few toes, so be it.

Let's face it, 90% of the value of the Proj is the database, the other 10% the for sale thread. The trolls won't be banned from that.

Exactly. Let us all decide our own level of acceptability either by what daniel arthur said or by allowing us to "mute" a user or post if we wish. Despite the abrasiveness I've learned some good stuff from yarp. Same goes for killis even though the knowledge was included in with some 'tude that would likely be censored these days.

Some people give good advice but are overtly jerky in their posts and get censored. Others are jerks for posting inanity but aren't jerky in their posts and don't get censored. I imagine I'm gonna miss the spunk of this community if this keeps up, but it's not my website. The owners/mods totally have the right to do whatever.

edit:

Those nattering nabobs of negativism! Those pusillanimous pussyfooters! Those hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history!

Seriously, funny quips are what many of we jaded are here to read. Yarp to me is a valued asset around here since he has a spine and his Orange Crush. And I like Elenor, too, especially since she riles everyone up so much. It adds to the carnival like atmosphere that has in the past and often will lead to in the future of great random meetings at the crags between people here. "I know you!"

Don't make this place mamby pampy.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
