cleaning rust off ice tool

I recently found an ice tool while walking down a climb. It's in pretty good shape minus a couple scratches and dings. The pick and hardware do have some rust on them though. It's only surface rust and almost seems to rub off. I was thinking of taking some steel wool to it to rub the rust off or just sharpening with a file and trying to rub the rust off with that. Would any of this damage the pick too much or alter the integrity of the tool? Thanks for any advice.

Swing it

No really i get some surface rust on my pics sometimes and it comes right of with a sharpening.

You might try to return it though. Its expensive and would be bad karma to climb on if someone is looking for it

Seems this is posted in the wrong forum. Lost and found would seem more appropriate. I'm sure the owner would be grateful if returned.
After you are unable to identify the owner a little steel wool & wd40 should improve its condition. Buying a new pick is also an option. But a little rust won't affect its performance...

The rust that's on the pick makes me think the tool has been there for awhile, at least for a few months. I would be more than willing to return it if I find the owner though
