You will get alot of different responses here, but always follow manufacturer instructions. Just rinse with warm water and then lube. Personally I dip into warm water, open close, open close, let dry then lube. Here is a link. BD Cam Maintenance Christopher Gibson

+1 for the warm rinse whilst working lobes, warm water/dish soap w/brush, then dry and lube.

It also helps to wipe down with rag beforehand to remove excess dirt.
