Huge crag just west of Lucerne Valley, CA. I've heard there are some established trad routes, but still looking for beta. Been working on a couple projects out there. If you have beta please post it.

"Conflicts between Indians and white settlers over the rich lands of the San Bernardino Mountains culminated in the battle at Chimney Rock on February 16, 1867. Although the Indians defended themselves fiercely, they were forced to retreat into the desert. In the years following, the Indians' traditional mountain food gathering areas were lost to white encroachment.

Getting There

From Apple Valley take Bear Valley east to Hwy 18 and turn right. Follow Hwy 18 east for 5.8 miles and turn left onto High Rd, which is a dirt road. Follow it across the dry lake bed and pick one of the many dirt roads to get to the crag. If you pick the right route and are careful, a car can easily get to the base of it.

Chimney Sweep 5.3 3+ 10 III 9 VD 3a  CA : High Desert : Chimney Rock
Long route with more scrambling than "Climbing", towards the top there are several small face and crack sequences. Easy climb, but a fall on top sections could be "Ugly". 5.3 rating is for the few areas near top out....[more]   Browse More Classics in CA

This Formation is called- Rabbit Dome (After Rabbit Dry Lake) AKA Cable Dome, after our desert friend Bob Cable.
There is a 3 pitch route route on the South Face, it goes at .10 +, FA Bob Cable and Julia Cronk.
Also on the North Face are several 1 pitch routes on excellent rock.
For more info on names of routes and topo's let me know and I can send them to you.
