The Cheam Range From the East, Cheam Peak on right...

Description

The Cheam Range is a small but defined range with 8 prominent peaks crammed into a short 10 km. The peaks canm be climbed year round but the weather can be a nuisance in the area. The Cheam Range is generally not crowded unless you decide to hike the Southern Slopes of cheam Peak. The rock quality is mostly loose volcanic rock and rock-fall can be a major problem if a climb has more than one group on it, on the other hand, the Peaks are easily accessible (with a 4WD vehicle) and can be climbed in a day trip from the nearest logging road.

Getting There

All Peaks can be climbed from nearest logging road. See backroad mapbooks for South-Westerm B.C

The Face from the Knoll

North Face/ Northwest Ridge 5.5 Steep Snow  International : Canada : ... : Cheam Peak

From the snow/talus slope beneath the North Face take avalanche runouts to a wooded knoll in the center of the base of the North Face. Ascend a pocket glacier here, then cut back back left across a rock band for one lead. In winter a 100m/300 ft couloir on the right may be used. Another 1 1/2 leads on snow then take you to the upper rock wall. Traverse right along the base of this ...[more]   Browse More Classics in International
