Chamonix Route Advice Please

Hi,

I am an experienced rock climber and mountaineer. I have done a bit of climbing and ski mountaineering in the Chamonix area, and I did the summer haute route years ago. I have five full days to spend with my girlfriend in Chamonix and I was looking for some advice on routes. She is also fit and a fast hiker and has some glacier travel and mountaineering experience but she is by no means an alpininist. One thought we had was to do most of the Tour du Mont Blanc hiking route in five days light and fast.

But I am looking for some advice on a good alpine traverse or loop that would involve some alpine and glacier travel but is not super technical. Also some nice hiking terrain, and some time in Italy would be a bonus. Maybe something from the Chamonix to Courmayeur, or vice versa? Or a trip that is some hiking and some alpine travel with maybe a skinny rope and lightweight glacier gear going hut to hut.

Unfortunately we would only have five full days. Could do a five day trip or a shorter trip with a day in Courmayeur...

Any recommendations on specific routes?

Nick

From Argentiere, take lifts and trails to the Albert Hut and spend the night. Easy hike, nice hut and great views. Then in the morning, no alpine start needed, climb Aig. du Tour....easy glacier crossing over the col and pass into Switzerland and scramble to the summit. Descend down the Trient glacier to the Trient Hut which sets up high above he glacier. Spend the night then reverse your trek to the Albert Hut, have some lunch and then head down to Argentiere.

Should be easy to plan out on the internet. Easy glacier travel....easy scramble to a summit by short roping, and nice full service huts. There are more easy options from here, but 3 days is a nice amount of time to spend up there.

If you need help, send me PM.

PS....order the Rosti potatoes in the Trient Hut when you get there the afternoon of your climb of the du Tour.

Nick, when will you be in Chamonix?

Can you get from La Fouly over to the town of Trient in two days, staying at either cabane du trient or cabane d'orny? Can you do it without lugging glacier gear? Maybe just microspikes or aluminum crampons and a lightweight axe? We will be there in the end of June.

Also sounds like during that time of year you can get away with not reserving the huts?

Thanks!

I will be there with my girlfriend June 24 through the 30th but I could definitely be convinced to stay and climb some alpine rock for two or three days after she leaves.....so maybe July 1 through the 3rd if I find the right partner.....you can check out my other post.....
