Damn pirates think they have the run of this place. Better look out for snipers though.

I, on the other hand, don't like your style. Asking for "payment" for finding someone's lost gear doesn't feel right [to me]. Many people will offer "payment/beer" even if you don't ask. Just one guy's opinion.

I think I misread this and thought that the OP was the person who lost a chalk bag, not the person who found one. If he's the finder, then some sort of crime may be being committed. A very petty and trivial one, but a crime nonetheless.
Perhaps it's in jest, so I'm just sayin . . .
(I wish people who "find" stuff at very popular areas right off a road would just leave the stuff there--the loser may quickly realize he forgot something and go back to reclaim it. He may not also, but it seems that just leaving the stuff there has as good a chance of getting the goods back to the owner as anything else. This is not a comment directed against the OP, but I think lots of time people take things with the plan of making a very half-hearted attempt to locate the owner, with the true plan of just keeping someone else's property.)
