Thanks !!

Pretty much anywhere within line of sight of Las Vegas. Also, anywhere with LOS of Blue Diamond/Spring Mtn Ranch State Park.

Generally if you are up higher than trailhead height in most areas of the park, and have line of sight with Vegas, you will have some form of service. Might not be 4G, but in case of emergency you are fine.

For reference, I currently am on Verizon and previously was on T-Mobile...and most of my partners are either on AT&T or Verizon.

Hope that helps.

As far as cell phone reception in Red Rock I don't know. But I do know that if say you have Verizon and don't get service but someone with some other provider does get service you can still call 911 with your Verizon service using another providers signal. It's a safety feature of all cell phones.

911 works almost anywhere with no cell service.

Not true. You can use a deactivated cell phone with no service to call 911 but if you don't have a signal it isn't going magically reach the emergency line. So, if you are lost in the middle of a RR canyon, with no cell phone connection, it won´t do you any good. You can´t call what your signal does not reach.

Pre-planning a rescue call, calling home or summoning a partner?

With AT&T it's often difficult to text from 1st and 2nd pullouts. Willow Springs is iffy for me. In the canyons texting is more available. First Creek, Oak Creek, Juniper Peak, over by Mud Springs I have texting. Not inside the canyon at Black Velvet for me. Weston is right on.

The rangers explained there is used to be signal interference between Blue Diamond and the nearest Las Vegas tower. Hampered reception in the cruisers. Sometimes exiting Red Rocks loop road, for reception, I find I have to re-boot my phone

I have tested this in several areas (deep in canyons, out in the middle of nowhere Utah) with no cell service and after a wait was able to ring through.

text messaging sometimes works better that a phone call. It only takes a few seconds of connection rather than a few minutes for a phone call. As always tell someone where you are going and what you are doing so when they get the text they can call 911 for you

Then you were getting a signal however weak it was. You said it works "with no cell service." Without a signal you don't get to call anything, 911 or not. It is physically impossible. Don't believe me, Google it.

Thanks for the information .
I got some signal at the top of theountain.
Surprisingly, I got a call at Wake up wall which is not high and deep in red rocks.

I think what they might be thinking of is that when you call 911, your call can go through on any carrier whether or not they are your service provider. That means in terms of emergency calls, it doesn't matter which provider you have, and I imagine there could be a situation where you have zero bars because your service provider has no service out there, but maybe another provider does so 911 would go through - and that could make it seem like 911 goes through even with no signal.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
