Description

Sunny and shady sides. Good quality rock. Not as popular as many areas. Secluded (from people, not the road).

The sunny side (east) currently sports a lovely bee's hive in the north most big pocket. This currently makes most of the east routes at least a grade more difficult (due to the one handed bee slapping)!

Descent
The south side has a tenuous sequence starting above the SW corner then down and right (facing the rock) using an undercling to the knobby face - perhaps a pad and spotter.

Getting There

Follow the trails around to the north side of Stoney Point. This boulder is located right at the edge of the giant concrete pour area by the train tracks and has a tree growing on it's west side.

This is sort of an eliminate, but a really good one. Start from the side pull between Face and Crack and Center Route, or sit start (same grade). Go up to the pockets below the bulge. Turn these into underclings and reach up onto the sloping bulge with bad feet. There is an intermediate and a knob up high right. Mantle! Try not to use any of the holds on Center Route... especially not the juggy crack. Really fun. Crux is probably bumping up to the knob, but the mantle is good too ...[more]   Browse More Classics in CA

Beta for West Side of Carousel Rock. Route 2 is 'Face and Crack' V0. Routes 4 and 5 are variations of 'Center Route' V0. My favorite is Route 1, which combines Face and Crack and Center Route into a traverse with a nice finish. Still V0.

Yeah that concrete monstrosity around the railroad tunnel entrance is a bloody envoronmental disaster.

This used to be a pretty nice spot.

L to R starting on the south face descent route and heading right as you walk around the boulder.

The east side beehive has been around as long as I can remember, which isn't that long (1999?). The boulder is still a nice stop before finishing the day at Hot Tuna, assuming starting the day low side of the road and ending high. I assume it will again be there this weekend.
